Beginning Spring 2023: JP Jofre + Lysander Piano Trio

LYSANDER TRIO + JP Jofre

(Re)Discovering Tango with acclaimed Argentinian bandoneon performer JP Jofre:

Lysander Piano Trio, praised for an “uncommon degree of heart-on-the-sleeve emotional frankness” (The Washington Post), is known for its vividly engaging performances and fresh interpretations of masterworks. Joining them is acclaimed bandoneon player and composer JP Jofre, whose works have been performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, among others. Together, they tell the story of the Tango over the years, as different cultures fused together to create its special character. Lysander sets the scene in the first half of the program with influences from Spanish music, African dances, and Italian Opera, while the second half showcases the Tango in its purest form with music for bandoneon and piano trio. Program to include Piano Trio after The Barber of Seville (Rossini/De Vilbac), Circulo, Op. 91 (Turina), Piano Trio No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 26, II. Presto (Lalo), Two Nguni Dances (Ndonada-Breen), and Tango selections for trio and bandoneon.
